Profile

Simone Selva is currently Associate Professor of Economic History at the University of Naples L’Orientale, FRHistS, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, London, and Research Associate, CNR-ISMed, Naples. He recently was visiting scholar at Waseda Institute for Advanced Study, Waseda University, Tokyo (Host. Prof. K.Yago).

Over the course of his career he held postdoctoral or visiting research positions at top-notch universities and research institutions, including Oxford University, University of Bologna, Columbia University, European University Institute, Harvard University Center for European Studies, the Zentrum fur Zeithistorische Forschung in Potsdam, University College London, New York University, Universidad de Buenos Aires. He also has been Visiting Research Professor for the Mexican Government at El Colegio de Mexico, Centro de Estudios Historicos, fixed-term researcher at the German Historical Institute in Washington DC and, more recently, Fulbright Research Scholar at Harvard University, Department of History.

He has served as blind reviewer for top-flight journals in Economic History and U.S. History and for EU-based funding programs as Horizon 2020 or Fonds National de la Recherche du Luxemburg. He has been awarded fundings subject to processes of peer review.

An expert in the history of U.S. foreign economic and monetary relations since WWII and international financial history in the twentieth century, he has researched the economic implications and dimensions of NATO’s military assistance to Western Europe; the intertwining between energy and finance in U.S. foreign economic policy; the historical category of international economic interdependence, and the relationship between financial and real estatemarkets.

His current research revolves around the global financial role of private U.S. banks and financial institutions and the history of unfettered international money and capital markets in the twentieth century age of global finance.
