CNR – ISMed Working Paper Series
The “CNR-ISMed Working Paper Series” was founded in 2023 by the Institute of Studies on the Mediterranean (ISMed) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). It collects ongoing studies and research of its own researchers and ISMed-associated, as well as of external scholars whose papers are of high scientific interest and aligned with the Institute’s mission and goals. It presents research results that are at a stage of development suitable for presentation at major conferences as well as for submission to national and international scientific journals or books. The purpose of the series is to be an open-access source of research and contribute to the scientific debate on ISMED’s scientific areas of interest by giving visibility to its research, encouraging their circulation, citation and ensuring the protection of intellectual property before final publication in scientific journals or other suitable venues.
Additional information about the series
The series will have an ISSN. The main dissemination channel will be the Institute’s website where the working papers will be made available in electronic format in a dedicated section. At same time, greater dissemination of the papers will be ensured through the indexing of the series on the specialized repository RePEc at the ISMed page (https://ideas.repec.org/d/iremcit.html).

Submission rules and peer review process
Papers to be submitted for inclusion in the “CNR ISMED Working Paper series” should be emailed to wpseries@ismed.cnr.it. Normally the papers are published in English. In exceptional cases, acceptance of papers also in the Italian language may be considered.
Papers that have not yet been published as a final in a journal or scientific volume and prepared:
- by ISMED researchers, also in collaboration with external parties;
- by external subjects, associated to the Institute and/or involved in ISMed research projects;
- by external subjects, not associated to the Institute but of recognized international reputation, whose work is consistent with the mission of the institute and relevant to its research programs and projects.
The editorial and scientific committee evaluates the scientific quality of the proposed papers if they fall within their area of specialization. The committee may rely on the judgment of anonymous reviewers who are experts in the field on the basis of which it will decide whether to request the author to revise the work, or to accept or reject the publication in the series. When submitting, the author is advised to indicate whether the work (in the current version) has already undergone a peer-review process (e.g., in journals, volumes, other series, or for participation in relevant conferences). In such a circumstance, the editorial board could accept the publication without the judgment of anonymous expert reviewers.
Should you have any questions regarding the submission process or suitability of a potential paper, please contact to wpseries@ismed.cnr.it in the first instance.
Submission requirements
In order to ensure the graphic uniformity of the series papers can be submitted in a format which can be converted into PDF format (e.g., Word).
The first page of the paper should include the title, abstract, keywords, authors’ names, their affiliation and their email address. Papers must include an abstract of 150-350 words and 3 -6 keywords for indexing. Submissions should also include a short biography of authors. Papers should be submitted in Arial font, 11pt and use line spacing of 1.5.
Where the paper requires the use of graphs or tables, these should be inserted into the word document where required. Please use APA Style guidelines.
Disclaimer
Responsibility for the papers remains with the individual authors, and the papers do not represent necessarily the opinions of other ISMED researchers.
Copyright
Works published in the working paper series remain the intellectual property of the author who retains the copyright.
It should be noted that scientific journals generally accept papers that have already been published in working paper series. However, authors are advised to always check the specific editorial policies of the scientific journal of interest for possible submission. In any case, at any time and at the author’s request, the working paper can be withdrawn from the series for submission of the work to a journal or other venues. In such circumstance, the text of the WP will be replaced with only the cover page, an abstract and an explanation. Where permitted by the editorial policies of the scientific journal, subsequent to the publication of the paper in the same, it will be possible to restore the initial text of the paper.
