SME4SMARTCITIES 1/3

SME4SMARTCITIES – Mediterranean SMEs working together to make cities smarter is a project funded by the European Union under the ’ENI CBC Med Programme to support SMEs in developing innovative and technological solutions to make cities in the Mediterranean basin smarter. Find out more: https://carismed.eu/sme4smartcities-en/

SME4SMARTCITIES 2/2

The online platform of the SME4SMARTCITIES project hosts a collaborative network of users, companies and institutions active in the field of smart cities and technological innovation in urban areas and provides training resources and contacts in order to trigger a virtuous circle of progress and constructive exchange of ideas and solutions.

SME4SMARTCITIES 3/3

The objective of SME4SMARTCITIES is to strengthen cooperation between SMEs in the Mediterranean basin and make cities more efficient and functional. The project has made it possible to implement and test a series of Smart City Solutions to tackle the climate crisis, make urban mobility more sustainable and improve the quality of life of inhabitants.

INNOMED UP 1/3

Urban waste management is a crucial challenge for Mediterranean cities: the Innomed-up project (Promoting UPcycling in Circular Economy through INNovation and education for creative industries in MEDiterranean cities) promotes the adoption of circular economy practices in the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) sector.

INNOMED UP 2/3

Through the circular economy, it is possible to tackle the problem of waste and wastage of resources in Mediterranean cities: the Guide to Circular Economy Strategies developed by Innomed-up delves into #upcycling practices that can be implemented at urban level, with a particular focus on actions taken by the Cultural and Creative Industries.

INNOMED UP 3/3

The  Innomed-up project has made it possible to launch a series of pilot projects within the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) in six countries of the Mediterranean area, to tackle the environmental challenges of our time through the adoption of circular economy practices and the creation of social innovation clusters. Discover them: https://carismed.eu/innomed-up-en-2/

MAIA-TAQA 1/2

MAIA-TAQA, an acronym for Mobilizing new Areas of Investments And Together Aiming to Increase Quality of Life for All, is a project funded by the European Union’s ENI CBC Med Programme with the objective of facilitating ecological transition and innovation in the energy sector in Mediterranean cities.

MAIA-TAQA 2/2

MAIA-TAQA  aims to develop new energy efficiency services through the implementation of a series of pilot projects related to wastewater treatment and the installation of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems in three countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean Sea: Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. UNDERGROUND4VALUE

1/4

Underground4Value is a project funded by the European Union under the COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology programme to promote, valorise and preserve the Underground Built Heritage (UBH), i.e. underground structures of archaeological, naturalistic, geological, historical and architectural interest, through interventions and initiatives that trigger positive impacts on communities.

2/4

Underground4Value analysed a series of case studies throughout Europe that constitute an ideal theatre to test the models and initiatives developed during four years of study and research on the valorisation of underground heritage. These include the Postojnska jama Cave-Grotte-Höhle caves in the Karst region of Slovenia, the Camerano caves in the province of Ancona and the extraordinary historical and artistic stratifications of the Rione Sanità in Naples.

3/4

Underground sites of historical-artistic or natural interest (tunnels, mines, caves) are a precious testimony to the past. By safeguarding and enhancing them, we not only preserve our collective and shared history, but also stimulate the economic development of the area. Among the case studies analysed by Underground4Value are the underground mills in Malta and Bunk’Art 1 in Tirana.

4/4

The Underground4Value project provides a range of useful training tools for all operators in the heritage sector and in particular UBH (underground cultural heritage), ranging from in-person training schools to e-learning, including videos, podcasts, and free downloadable guides. Find out more or visit the underground4value.eu platform.

CARISMED INTRO

Carismed (Capitalisation for Re-setting Innovation and Sustainability in MED-Cities) is a project funded under the European Union’s ENI CBC MED programme involving six countries in the Mediterranean basin with the aim of promoting and implementing more sustainable urban development practices. #Carismed continued and complemented the initiatives developed within three other projects:  Innomed-Up, MAIA-TAQA e Sme4Smartcities.

CARISMED WP GREECE

Carismed mapped vacant or decaying buildings in all project partner countries. In Greece, four examples of good practices in energy efficiency, particularly in public buildings, were identified.

CARISMED WP PALESTINE

The investigation of the building context in Palestine by the Carismed project focused on the old city of Hebron and three buildings adopting state-of-the-art green technologies: the Hafith Al-Natsheh School, the first eco-sustainable public school in the region, the Bethlehem Multidisciplinary Industrial Park, which uses a passive solar system for heating and cooling, and the Qattan Foundation headquarters in Ramallah.

CARISMED WP SPAIN

Of the Carismed partner countries, Spain is among those that have implemented the most sustainability initiatives and efforts in environmental governance. The case studies analysed involved the renovation of two buildings that are symbolic of Spanish history and heritage.

CARISMED WP ITALY

In the Italian scenario, two examples of best practice in social housing and the adoption of sustainable construction and housing solutions stand out. Within the Carismed  project the Cenni di Cambiamento complex in Milan and Lotto 4 in Ravenna were analysed. Find out more.

CARISMED WP TUNISIA

In Tunisia, the  Carismed project focused on the medina of Tunis, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. This place with a millenary history preserves precious historical-architectural testimonies whose recovery has brought tangible benefits to the city.

CARISMED WP JORDAN

In recent years, Jordan has shown an increasing sensitivity towards the use of clean energy, particularly solar energy. The Carismed project examined some of the most significant examples of this trend.Forma
