Abstract

The project Colonialism and Decolonization. History lessons aims to broaden research on colonialism and decolonization to a wider audience, including with regard to the Italian case — a useful element of reflection in today’s Italy.

The project will promote:

  • lectures on specific topics concerning the history of colonialism and decolonization in municipal libraries, with a Q&A session at the end of each meeting to address the curiosity and questions of the audience;
  • book presentations;
  • artistic interventions;
  • collection of documents and their digitization;
  • interviews and in-depth educational content.

Specific objectives

– To foster knowledge of the history of colonialism and decolonization, particularly the Italian case, drawing on themes capable of conveying the variety of social, cultural, and political experiences.

– To develop the collection, enhancement, and sharing of memories from the colonial and post-colonial period by Italian and non-Italian families who wish to bear witness to their own experiences, particularly in the city of Rome, at a time when the demand for knowledge on the topic of colonialism and decolonization is increasingly widespread.

 – To support teacher training processes on the topic of colonialism, starting from the history of contemporary Italy.

– To enhance, in the digital sphere, sources relating to the history of colonialism and decolonization.
