Profile

Giuseppe Giliberti was born in Naples on 29/09/1950. He resides in Bologna, Via dei Mille 12, postcode 40121. He graduated in Law at the University of Naples and was a student of Prof. Francesco Paolo Casavola.


He is a full professor (retired) of Fundamentals of European Law, a subject he taught at the University of Urbino. He has also taught Human Rights (Sociology of Urbino, Political Science of Bologna, Science of Education of Florence, Literature of Tarragona), Human Rights in the Mediterranean Area (PhD in Mediterranean Studies of Tarragona), History of Globalisation (PhD in Global Studies of Urbino). He coordinated the Euro-Mediterranean Relations Commission of the Ministry of Universities (Min. Mussi).

He co-founded the Master in Human Rights at the University of Bologna. He was president of the School of Law of the University of Urbino and Delegate for International Relations.

He is the editor of the legal review ‘Cultura giuridica e diritto vivente’ (Urbino), of the series of Euro-Mediterranean studies ‘EPHESO’ (Cisalpino, Milan, together with Prof. Salvatore Capasso), of the series of political studies ‘Politicamente’ (Intra, Pesaro).

His research focuses on the economic and social history of the ancient world (eastern despotism, slavery, colour, trade), the political institutions and ideologies of power in the Mediterranean area (Roman Empire, Egypt), Seneca’s political and philosophical thought, and the history of fundamental rights.

He coordinated the Erasmus network ‘A Philosophy for Europe’ and promoted Euro-Mediterranean academic cooperation, chairing the Management Board of the Euro-Mediterranean University in Piran (Slovenia) and the Italian Network for Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue. He founded the EPHESO Award for Euro-Mediterranean relations.
