Antonio Maria Fusco (Napoli, 1933), economist and historian of economic thought. Degree in Law and lecturer in Political Economy. Formerly full professor at the University of Naples ‘Federico II’ and holder, in the Faculty of Economics of that university, of the History of Economic Thought course. He has also taught at the universities of Teramo and Bari-Casamassima, at the Naval University Institute, now Parthenope University, and at the Higher School of Public Administration. The nature, and if anything, overriding needs of some of the above-mentioned Institutes have led him to also hold lectures on Economic Policy, Economic History, Micro and Macroeconomics.

A former member and scientific secretary of the CNR’s Committee for Economic, Sociological and Statistical Sciences and director of one of its institutes: the Institute for Studies on Financial Structures and Economic Development (Isfse). He was also a member of the CNR National Committee for Technological Research and Innovation. For over thirty years, he edited the column ‘Rassegna delle pubblicazioni economiche’ in the journal Economia italiana. He is a member of the Italian Society of Economists and an ordinary member of the Pontan Academy. His publications are numerous: books, articles, curatorships, entries for encyclopaedias, notes, short essays, translations, reviews. All of these publications bear witness to the multiplicity of interests he has, which have proved to be a stimulus in fostering the promotion of reflections on various themes of economic theory, economic policy, the history of economic doctrines, and the philosophy of economic science. His most recent writings include: (1) a lengthy critical-interpretative essay on Vilfredo Pareto’s much-discussed ‘Manual’, an essay that found its place in the penultimate volume (pp. 73-203) published by him: Tessere per un mosaico, discorrendo di economisti e di economia (Naples, 2019), and (2) a timely biography of Lydia Lopokova, a classical dancer and wife of economist J. M. Keynes, whose life, not without its “restlessness”, was expounded and commented on in the numerous opening pages (pp.11-103 ) of her recent book in print: A briglie sciolte, su terreni accidentati (Naples, 2023).
