In this meeting, we will explore a historical phenomenon that is experiencing a lively historiographical renewal. The emergence of Anglo-Saxon and Atlantic perspectives, together with current debates such as those on decolonisation and the Black Lives Matter movement, has renewed attention on this issue and its implications for contemporary society. But what forms has it taken in the Mediterranean? What peculiarities does it present? The Kingdom of Naples offers sources and interpretative insights that go beyond the mere crossroads, involving Italian networks and other Mediterranean realities. The redemption of the “bad guys” highlights social glues, interests, international negotiations and networks, ideals.
THE SPEAKER. Giovanni Lombardi, PhD in Economic History, graduated in Philosophy and Modern Literature, is first researcher at CNR-ISMed. He has worked mainly on modern history with reference to the Kingdom of Naples, the history of publishing and the paper-book trade, Cultural Heritage, the history of tourism and the depopulation of inland areas.
