Innovation and tradition for wellness tourism
between the Mediterranean diet and the rediscovery of territories

As a result of the growing interest in a healthy lifestyle in today’s society, wellness tourism has grown rapidly over the last two decades, especially in Mediterranean destinations, becoming the lever of success for territories capable of reinterpreting their history in a creative, innovative and sustainable way. In this context, food and wine stands as an excellent glue between the new needs of tourists, the identity of destinations and the activities of local producers.
These are the assumptions underlying the volume “Evolving the perspectives on the value of gastronomy for Mediterranean destination development” of the book series “Tourism studies on the Mediterranean Region”, whose main results will be presented by the editors during the event.
This will be followed by a round table with university professors, researchers, operators and policy makers who will offer a critical reflection on the challenges and opportunities of food and wine as a transversal and strongly experiential strategic resource. Innovative forms of tourism, in fact, such as tourism of roots, villages and wellness, are increasingly capable of generating successful experiences and launching sustainable development paths, becoming strategic assets for the economies of our country and the Mediterranean region.
The conference is part of the Rome Future Week 2024 calendar of events.
