From 26 to 28 September 2024, the second national conference of the Italian Society of Environmental History will be held in Naples at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the Federico II University (via Porta di Massa, 1) under the title “Italian Environmental History from Ancient to Contemporary Times. Themes, sources and methods”. The conference aims to provide an opportunity for a wide-ranging survey of the scientific production of Italian and foreign scholars on the environmental history of Italy, also from a comparative point of view, in a strictly diachronic perspective, even in the long term, and with an interdisciplinary slant that includes the contribution of other humanistic disciplines as well as disciplines related to the bio-geo-physical sciences, with a focus on the use of specific sources and respective methods of investigation.

Consistent with its founding spirit, SISAm is open to a plurality of scientific and methodological approaches, is attentive to the stimuli coming from associations, and is committed to didactics and dissemination. For this reason, the conference is also open to contributions aimed at presenting qualified teaching and public history experiences, as well as creative forms of communication on environmental history topics. In continuity with the first National Conference in Catania (September 2022), by restricting the field of investigation to Italy but broadening the spectrum of approaches, SISAm intends to offer its contribution to the census and circulation of knowledge on Italian environmental history.
