a new season of ISMed-CNR research towards a common design
ISMed-CNR
CNR Humanistic Pole Conference Hall
Via Cardinale Guglielmo Sanfelice (6th floor)
17 September 2024 9.00 a.m.
Remote access on Teams platform.
The conference aims to examine the crucial role of the Mediterranean, a region that is strategic from a geopolitical, economic, cultural and environmental perspective, but at the same time crossed by tensions, conflicts and inequalities. Recent events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, together with rising inflation, have accentuated the area’s vulnerabilities, but have also opened up new opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between Mediterranean countries and the entire African continent. Within this framework, a new phase of research for the CNR and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies will be outlined, geared towards shared planning.
The first session will focus on current geopolitical dynamics and the role of Europe and Italy in relations with Mediterranean and African countries. The second session will explore economic challenges, migration and climate change, with a focus on the sustainability of coastal cities. The third session will present innovative research tools, such as the Mediterranean Digital Humanities Lab and DataMED, highlighting successful projects and prospects for strengthening Mediterranean cooperation. The conference will conclude with a final debate open to new ideas and collaborative ideas.
