Complex phenomena are increasingly affecting our lives and urban communities. There is an increasing need to investigate the critical issues affecting urban systems through interdisciplinary approaches.

In order to effectively design urban policies, it is crucial to explore the dynamics coming from different risk factors that are most often examined in a disjointed manner.

In this study, an urban simulation model is proposed that is able to jointly consider the phenomena of demographic change, social vulnerability and extraordinary meteorological phenomena. Considering the case study of the Municipality of Aversa, the temporal and spatial variations of urban risk resulting from different simulation scenarios are calculated and analysed.

System Dynamics modelling and Agent based modelling methodologies are used to build the simulation model, and Stata, R and Python software are used.

Information and statistical data from official (ISTAT, ISPRA) and administrative sources of the municipality (Registry Office, Technical Office) are taken into consideration. Through a participatory research process, contributions and testimonies from experts and local development agents are collected.

THE SPEAKERS

Francesco Andreottola, researcher of the National Research Council at the Institute of Mediterranean Studies (CNR-ISMed) and PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has always combined scientific, training and professional activities. His focus is on profit and non-profit organisations as places of innovation and drivers of economic, social and cultural development. His research interests are heterogeneous and diverse and cover various disciplinary fields.

Luigi Guadalupi is an economic researcher working at the National Research Council – Institute for Mediterranean Studies (CNR-ISMed). He holds a Master’s degree in ‘Economics, Institutions and Development in Southern Italy’ from the Sichelgaita Foundation (Salerno) and a PhD in Public Sector Economics from the University of Salerno.

His research interests are in Regional Economics, Public Economics and Economics of Complexity. In particular, in recent years he has been working on evaluating the economic impact of tourism, analysing economic interdependencies using input-output models, analysing the efficiency of municipal administrations using DEA models, and analysing local economic systems using agent-based models.
