This volume presents a study aimed at shedding light on the history of the Dominican convent of San Sebastiano di Serramanna – a Sardinian municipality in the province of South Sardinia – from its foundation (1630) until its decommissioning (1856), through the analysis, codicological description and edition of a nineteenth-century Cabreo that belonged to the convent. This precious source, in which are recorded both deeds of various kinds such as legacies, censi and donations – stipulated between the preachers and the inhabitants of Serramanna and the neighbouring communities – and memories of the vicissitudes of the religious community, traces the history of the convent in time and allows us to know the extent of the patrimony of the Dominican house of Serramanna. In view of the scarcity of documentary material relating to the Dominican Order in Sardinia, caused by the huge documentary dispersions that have affected the Sardinian territory over the centuries, the volume is intended to be a useful tool for understanding the policies of growth and management of the patrimony conducted by the Dominican communities on the island in modern times.
