What challenges and opportunities will shape the future of tourism in the Mediterranean? This was the central question addressed at the roundtable held on 14 October at TTG Travel Experience in Rimini, marking five years of research in the “Tourism Studies on the Mediterranean Region” book series published by CNR-ISMed. The event was introduced by Dr Piera Buonincontri, Senior Researcher at CNR-ISMed, and moderated by Professor Roberto Micera of the University of Basilicata and Associate Researcher at CNR-ISMed.
On 8 October 2026, the kick-off meeting of SSHOpenCloud-IT, a national project aimed at strengthening digital research infrastructures for the social sciences, humanities and cultural heritage, took place in Rome. CNR-ISMed is contributing to the initiative through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing research infrastructure assessment, artificial intelligence, socioeconomic analysis, training and science communication.
From 14 to 16 October 2026, CNR-ISMed will take part in Green Logistics Expo 2026 in Padua through the participation of researchers Pietro Evangelista and Luca Vota, contributing to scientific activities focusing on sustainable logistics and decarbonisation.

Walter Palmieri is a senior researcher at our Institute of Mediterranean Studies. His work focuses on environmental history and, more specifically, on landslides and hydrogeological disasters from a historical perspective. This is a recent interview with him on the subject, in which he discusses social vulnerability and the importance of historical memory, illustrating these points with the concrete example of Gragnano in Campania, an area prone to numerous landslides, some of which have been catastrophic.
