21 May 2023 marked the 60th anniversary of the” guest worker” agreement between Germany and Morocco. Over 50 years have passed since then, and it is estimated that today, 4.5–5 million people of Moroccan origin live in different parts of the world. Countries with sizeable Moroccan populations include Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Against this backdrop, issues at the heart of the international debate, such as migration, integration, and the transnational engagement of people of Moroccan origin, are being examined. The volume entitled “Migration, Integration and Transnational Engagement of Migrants and their Descendants from Morocco” offers various contributions from Germany, France, Italy, Morocco and the Netherlands which address these issues. Among these contributions is “Migration et développement dans une perspective de genre. Le cas des femmes migrantes entre le Maroc et l’Italie”, edited by Immacolata Caruso (National Research Council, Institute for Mediterranean Studies, ISMed-CNR, Naples, Italy), Ghislaine El Abid (Paris Cité University – CEPED – IRD – UMR 196 and Université Internationale de Rabat – CGS, Paris and Rabat, Morocco), and Sabrina Greco (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto per le Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale, CNR-ISPC, Lecce, Italy), as part of a joint research project between the authors conducted in close cooperation with colleagues and representatives of similar institutions in the Mediterranean region.
