WeMed video presentation

On Tuesday April 1 2025 at 3:00 p.m., in the Library Room of the National Research Council in Rome, Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of CNR, and Francesco Maria Chelli, President of Istat, will open the presentation of “WeMed 2024, Society, Economy and Environment in the Mediterranean”.

The product, the result of the collaboration between Istat and the National Research Council-Institute for Mediterranean Studies (CNR-ISMed), is an important information tool for institutions, researchers and stakeholders in the territories and, through 146 indicators, offers a detailed and multidimensional analysis of the social, economic, environmental and gender dynamics of the Mediterranean countries. The platform is organised into four thematic areas: Population and Society, Economy, Environment and Natural Resources, and Gender Comparisons.

The system was developed by adopting open source resources to ensure transparency, accessibility and sustainability over time and allows interactive territorial reading through the display of dynamic graphs and maps. The WeMed product of the 2024 Edition consists of several information modules: 12 thematic pages; a Dashboard that allows direct or guided searches of indicators and the representation through interactive maps and graphs of the territorial distributions of indicators and national time series; and, finally, a section on Methodological aspects that documents the complex work of acquiring, comparing and selecting data from the most accredited international statistical sources.

Thanks to the contribution of authoritative experts, the potential of the product offering an integrated and interactive reading of the territories, grasping their inequalities and the dynamics of the main phenomena, will be discussed, as well as the project’s development prospects in the national and international spheres, within the framework of the cooperation relationship between the two institutions.

The components, innovative architecture, process and methodologies for integrating international statistical sources will also be described, as well as how to navigate the WeMed platform.
