When people talk about walls and emigration, they usually think of those designed or erected to stop the mobility of human beings in search of salvation or better living conditions. But in Procida at Corricella, a “Wall of Memory” has been created dedicated to Procidan migrants who left the island starting in the 19th century. Their names were imprinted by the association la Grande Famille de Procida et Ischia on blue tablets on white lime and visible even at night from the sea. This visibility in the Procidan architectural jewel is not accidental. It speaks to us first and foremost of a Procida as an ancient Mediterranean koynè that still lives in the perspective of a sea-to-coast gaze, and it also makes clear to us the uniqueness of the historical Procidan emigration directed all (or almost all) to maritime-maritime activities even when politically motivated.
