MANN, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, is making archaeology increasingly contemporary thanks to PON Culture and Development funds. On Monday 19 June, all the ‘digital’ innovations that the Museum is proposing and will continue to propose to users were presented.
Among the digital products for permanent displays and exhibitions, a CNR ISMed project stands out: Campania Romana – Study and video reconstruction of the Quadriga of Herculaneum.
The digital reconstruction proposal is based on the integration of all the information offered by ancient iconographic documentation, historical and archival sources and archaeological evidence. Its verification through digital restoration techniques has made it possible to redeliver to scholars and the public a monument that is still incomplete, but now certainly much more readable and usable in its technical, artistic, figurative and historical aspects. Speakers included Stefania Pafumi (CNR-Istituto di Studi sul Mediterraneo, Naples), Francesco Gabellone (CNR-Istituto Nanotec, Lecce), Fabiana Cerasa (PhD in Science for Cultural Heritage and Production, University of Catania). Reconstructive video of the pictorial decoration of the Amphitheatre of Pompeii, realised for the exhibition “Gladiators” by Paolo Saracini – Altair Multimedia srl. “Design, digital and multimedia set-up of the MANN’s Plastico” is the project illustrated by Mario Grimaldi.
