Michele Nani, researcher at the Institute of Mediterranean Studies of the National Research Council (CNR-ISMed), was awarded second place in the category ‘works on the subject of Ferrara’ at the Niccolini Prize. This award is an important recognition for productions by local authors or with a local theme, evaluated every six years by the Fondazione Estense.

Michele Nani is a researcher in the history of the contemporary age, whose research focuses on the Italian 19th century and issues such as racism, nationalism, migration history and urban history. He coordinates a working group for a historical-digital atlas of Ferrara and is currently working on two books, one on the social structures of the city in the 19th century and the other on the ‘biography of a building’ through the stories of its tenants.

The book ‘Migrazioni bassopadane’ offers an in-depth look at the forms of mobility in the Ferrarese between 1861 and 1971. This award gives important visibility to the author’s research work and capacity for historical analysis and is a further incentive to continue working on issues of great historical and social relevance for the local community.

The book is available in Open Access below.
