The seminar is based on the book by Paola Avallone (CNR-ISMed): Monetizzare il credito. La Cassa di Sconto del Banco delle due Sicilie (1818-1860), edito da Il Mulino.Through extensive research and the study of archival sources, the author reconstructs the history and function of the Cassa di Sconto del Banco delle due Sicilie, one of the first institutions of its kind in Europe.

This is discussed with Pier Francesco Asso (Department of Political Science, University of Palermo) and Maria Carmela Schisani (Department of Economics and Statistics, University of Naples ‘Federico II’). Introduced and moderated by Ida Fazio (Department of Humanities, University of Palermo), welcomed by the Director of the Department of Humanities Francesca Piazza.

The event is part of the CNR’s centenary celebration programmes (1923-2023).
