On 14 November, the CNR-ISMed library in Milan will host a seminar dedicated to the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar (Ixelles, 26 August 1914 – Paris, 12 February 1984) and his relations with Italy, forty years after his death. Considered one of the masters of experimental fiction, he is best known for his novel Rayuela, the world’s game, characterised by textual freedom and the relationship between reader and text, the pinnacle of Cortázar’s creative-literary journey. The initiative includes the participation of translators, scholars, writers and artists who have crossed their interests around the Argentinean narrator’s work. Although the writer spent his life between Argentina and France, he was also very successful in Italy, thanks to the editorial reception of the publishing house Einaudi and his atypical style, welcomed by Italian writers such as Italo Calvino and Stefano Bartezzaghi. The seminar is one of the initiatives of the CLAMoLab research group (https://www.ircres.cnr.it/clamolab) and is divided into two sessions, the first entitled Cortázar’s literary paths, coordinated by Patrizia Spinato (CNR ISMed), and the second entitled Cortázar: Italian geographies, coordinated by Fernanda Bravo Herrera (CONICET – Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas). The Instituto Cervantes of Milan and the Asociación de Docentes e Investigadores de Lengua y Literatura Italiana are sponsoring the meeting.
