from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
CNR – National Research Council
G. Marconi Central Library
Piazzale Aldo Moro 7, Rome
In 2023, the CNR signed an agreement with the Ferruccio Parri National Institute for research and collaboration, which resulted in the creation of an Atlas of assistance camps for Giulian and Dalmatian refugees, now available online (www.reteparri.it/esodiprofuganzeww2/). This important research and dissemination activity is being presented and discussed publicly for the first time, offering a broader reflection on the issue of refugees and migration from the Second World War to the present day, from a historiographical point of view and in terms of public information and communication, referring to the ethical guidelines set out in the Code of Ethics for Journalists and the Code of Ethics and Good Conduct for Communicators.
The day is divided into two separate courses, which can be taken separately or together.
Morning course: Refugees, asylum seekers and displaced persons in European history. Tools for informing and communicating in an ethical, responsible and respectful manner.
It will focus on the situation in Europe after the Second World War, starting with a presentation of the Atlas of Reception Centres for Giulian and Dalmatian Refugees by the Parri National Institute and focusing on the drafting of the Geneva Convention, a fundamental reference point for asylum seeker legislation, at the heart of the Charter of Rome. The historical reflection will therefore be combined with ethical guidelines for journalists and public communicators, in order to correctly define cases of political asylum, language and proper information and communication activities.
Afternoon course: Migration: facts and representations from 1989 to the present day, according to professional ethical rules.
We will take stock of the recent situation, reflecting on the evolution of migration policies, the origins and characteristics of the flows that have affected – and are affecting – our country. The issue of the representation of migration phenomena is linked here to the current debate, providing a multidisciplinary scientific contribution, especially in the field of information and public communication and professional ethics.
