The conference provides an opportunity to present and discuss the most significant historical research on the relationship between Italian Methodism and Southern Italy produced in recent years, such as issue 113 of the journal Meridiana, entitled “Sud evangelico” (2015), or the book “Metodisti e Mezzogiorno. Cultura, missioni e impegno sociale dall’Unità d’Italia a oggi” (Carocci, 2015). The theme has become a permanent feature of an increasingly close collaboration between the CNR – ISMed and the Methodist Documentation Centre, one of the leading organisations representing scholarly work in the field of historical Protestantism in Italy. With this in mind, the conference aims to take stock of historical research on the relationship between Methodists and Southern Italy, but also to stimulate reflection with a view to future developments and new investigations.
