EXHIBITION INFORMATION

On display, until 21 February 2025, a selection of ancient artefacts and working tools, precious testimonies of an art handed down through generations. These are flanked by photographs and historical documents from the historical archives of the Banco di Napoli and the SSIP, which tell the story of the glove school, an idea born in 1919 and realised in 1952, with the aim of training craftsmen able to preserve the heritage of glove-making in Naples.

The exhibition was promoted by the Stazione Sperimentale Industria Pelli e Materie Concianti (SSIP) and the Fondazione Banco di Napoli and organised with the contribution of the Accademia delle Belle Arti, the Istituto di Studi sul Mediterraneo CNR-ISMed, the Naples Fashion Museum and Chirotèca Rete di Imprese. Under the patronage of the Campania Region.

Main sponsor: LINEAPELLE. With the support of the Naples Industrial Union

CNR-ISMed contributed to the exhibition as part of an agreement with the Stazione sperimentale per l’industria delle pelle e delle materie concianti-SSIP (Experimental Station for the Leather and Tanning Materials Industry-SSIP), aimed at enhancing and protecting its bibliographic, museum and archive heritage. Through the analysis of sources held at the SSIP and in the CNR-ISMed library, the ancient location in Naples of the “coriari”, the leather workers, was reconstructed, starting from Piazza Mercato and the ancient chapel of their patron saint, Saint Catherine. The study was conducted by Maria Rosaria Aletta, Librarian, and Claudia di Somma, Head of Third Mission.
