The seminar illustrates the principles and aims of Social Farming through four projects financed by the LAG Metropoli Est, which aim to provide opportunities for socio-occupational integration or social, socio-health and educational services for disadvantaged or marginalised people:
- social and labour insertion of workers with disabilities, disadvantaged workers and minors of working age in rehabilitation and social support projects
- social benefits and service activities for local communities by using the tangible and intangible resources of agriculture to promote, accompany and implement actions aimed at the development of skills and capacities, social and work inclusion, recreation and useful services for everyday life
- socio-medical interventions, i.e., services that flank and support medical, psychological and rehabilitative therapies aimed at improving the health conditions and social, emotional and cognitive functions of the individuals concerned, also with the help of farmed animals and plant cultivation
- projects aimed at environmental and food education, the safeguarding of biodiversity and the dissemination of local knowledge through the organisation of regionally recognised social and educational farms, such as initiatives to welcome and accommodate pre-school children and people with social, physical and mental difficulties.
Finally, a researcher from CREA-PB (Council for Research in Agriculture and Analysis of the Agricultural Economy-Centre for Policy and Bioeconomics), let me introduce what has been done so far in Italy to recover the social function that agriculture had in rural society: solidarity, integration, enhancement of the relational dimension.
The event is part of the #dialoguesdiscussion cycle organised by the Territorial Research Unit of Bagheria (Palermo)
