The conference aims to reopen the discussion on historical research concerning confinement in the contemporary age, with the aim of contributing to the definition of innovative research proposals covering various topics: the similarities and differences between places of confinement on islands and on the mainland; confinement and work; confinement and agricultural colonies; confinement and mobility; continuity and discontinuity in the history of confinement between the liberal era, fascism and the republican period; the digital enhancement of research on confinement; the situation of archives; project proposals for the future.

Two days of study with presentations by scholars and researchers, and a round table dedicated to “Places of Memory”.

Researchers from CNR-ISMed (Michele Colucci, Francesco Di Filippo, Stefano Gallo, Donato Di Sanzo, Giovanmni Ferrarese) will participate in the discussion.
