Myths are paradigmatic tales and represent a particularly effective form of storytelling. The seminar investigates the relationship between the fantasy tale and the fantastical worlds described in it, highlighting how the tale sometimes becomes myth in the most proper and praying sense of the term, with foundational functions not unlike those of myths in traditional societies.
THE SPEAKER. Igor Baglioni is the director of the “Raffaele Pettazzoni” Museum of Religions in Velletri (Rome). In 2012 he obtained a PhD in Religious History at “Sapienza” University of Rome; in 2013 he won a scholarship from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei for research in the field of the history of religions named after “Raffaele Pettazzoni”. He is a member of the Italian Society for the History of Religions, of the Scientific Committee of the Centre for Studies on Heritage and Territory of the European University of Rome and of the Editorial Board of “Folkloricum. Archive of Ancient Folklore”. He directs the study series “Religio” for Edizioni Quasar.
