The CNR’s ISEM and ISMed institutes are organising a conference in Ferrara on women’s social-political commitment and the link with the figure of Giacomo Matteotti between the 1920s and the 1960s. The proceedings will be opened on Monday 17 February at 2.30 p.m. by two papers reconstructing the framework of women’s working experience in the early decades of the 20th century and their political commitment in the struggle for rights. The main actions of a project of the CNR-ISEM Institute aimed at studying, with new questions, the political and social mobilisation of Italians between the two wars will then be presented. Following this, the first results of research on the link between women’s political commitment and Matteotti will be presented. The first day will end with Enzo Bellettato and Chiara Crepaldi illustrating and performing popular songs by mondine, workers and peasants dedicated to the figure of Giacomo Matteotti. On Tuesday 18 February, starting at 10 a.m., there will be several case studies on Matteotti’s political and ideal legacy in Emilia-Romagna and Polesine, areas in which women’s protagonism and their ability to mobilise and organise were particularly strong until after World War II.
