Giuseppe Di Vittorio’s life is a perfect reflection of the passions, traumas and achievements of the 20th century. His journey spans vastly different periods and places: his early days as a farm labourer in Puglia, revolutionary trade unionism, the world wars, his encounter with communism, the long exile imposed by the fascist regime, right up to the decisive role he played during the post-war reconstruction, when he became a leading figure in Italy and worldwide in the revival of the trade union movement. Drawing on a wealth of historical documentation, the book reconstructs his biography, focusing in particular on its international dimension. Page after page, the portrait of a legendary and fascinating life emerges, marked by a desire for redemption in which social struggles take on a global perspective, reconstructed systematically for the first time.
