Ulysses, the pleasure of discovery

The fabulous world of the Etruscans (Raiuno, 9.20 pm, 5 May 2021)

The episode is dedicated to the development of knowledge about the Etruscan world over the last 20 years, with reference to the first episode of the programme aired in 2001 and dedicated to the great exhibition on the Etruscans in Venice.

The researcher Enrico Benelli (CNR-ISMed) was the consultant.  An expert in Etruscology, Benelli has collaborated in particular on the texts read by the presenter Alberto Angela and especially on Etruscan epigraphy and language. The CNR-ISMed researcher also appears briefly in the episode of Ulysses, while explaining and correcting the reading of an Etruscan inscription by the famous voice actor Luca Ward.

Enrico Benelli is an experienced Etruscologist, with expertise mainly in the field of epigraphy. He has written numerous works on the subject. Among other things, he is the author of the two main existing textbooks on Etruscan epigraphy (one of which is also translated into French) and of the chapter "Language and Epigraphy" in the most widely used university textbook on Etruscology in Italy.

As part of the European project AELAW (Ancient European Languages and Writings), he has published an information booklet published in three editions (Italian, Spanish and English), intended for dissemination to a wide and diverse audience.
