How and why should we interrupt and reorient our understanding of the Mediterranean, its histories and cultures? Produced in time and space, geographies and stories are never neutral, but always the result of impositions and disputes; they are, in the final analysis, elaborated and practiced by those who have the power to impose their own maps and chronologies. Thinking in terms of the historical and cultural impact of the mobile, migratory and changing configuration of the Mediterranean, the perspectives proposed in this volume deliberately seek to dismantle and undo the authority of the current archive. Instead, it proposes a set of interdisciplinary and transcultural considerations that allow another Mediterranean - subordinate, removed and denied - to emerge, to question and interrupt the usual narrative.
