The third Atlas of nesting and wintering birds in the city of Naples is the most recent result of research conducted by the Association of Ornithological Studies of Southern Italy, in collaboration with Federico II University and the MUSA Centre. In the eyes of environmental historians, the Atlas is a useful tool for observing the transformations of Naples’ urban environment from a more-than-human perspective. The conversation between Maurizio Fraissinet, coordinator of the three Atlases, and Luigi Piccioni will start from the methodologies of analysis and the results of ornithological research, with the aim of tracing the intersections between the latter and some of the most original lines of research currently being conducted by environmental historians.

THE SPEAKER. Maurizio Fraissinet is a biologist and ornithologist, president of Asoim. He has been a councillor and vice-president of the Regional Council of Campania, national councillor for WWF Italy, president of the Vesuvius National Park, commissioner of the Matese Regional Park and vice-president of Federparchi. An expert in urban birdlife, he has published over 30 monographs and 200 scientific articles.
