Fifth lesson. The crisis of the 70s determines the return to Italy of many emigrants. At the same time, economic transformations pushed internal migrations towards the central and north-eastern areas. Foreign immigration became increasingly important, and over time it affected the entire national territory.
THE CYCLE OF LESSONS: "A century of migrations in Italy (1920-2020)" is a series of lessons dedicated to the history of migration, organized by CNR-ISMed and Libraries of Rome. The idea was born in March 2020, in the midst of the restrictions linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, to continue to tell the story from home. An opportunity for students, teachers, readers, researchers, simple onlookers, who can confront themselves directly with experts in the subject.
What do we know about the history of migration in Italy? When, how and why did Italian citizens emigrate abroad? By whom and how is foreign immigration composed? What are the main trajectories of internal migration?
