Profile

Bruno Venditto graduated in 1988 with honours in Maritime Economics from the University of Naples "Parthenope"; continued his studies in England at the Manchester University obtaining in 1991 the post-graduate diploma in Economic and Social Studies and in 1992 the Masters in Economic and Social Studies. He was lecturing at the University until 1995 when he was employed on a temporary contract as researcher at the National Research Council of the Institute for Research Institute on Mediterranean Economies, later Institute of Studies on Mediterranean Societies, in  1997 he became a full time researcher at the same Institute

From the beginning his research activities have focused on two themes which complement each another: the study of the dynamics of growth in developing countries, with particular emphasis on the African countries and the study of the cooperation policies between the European Union and the third non European countries. During the period 1997-1999 he was coordinator for the SP6 component "Southern Europe as euro-Mediterranean node in the context of the strategic project "Italy in Europe: governance and economic development policies" Later he started a collaboration with civil society organizations and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the implementation of cooperation activities in many African countries.

From May 1999 to May 2000 he was responsible for the training of young researchers at the Namibian Economic Policy Research Unit, and then from June 2000 to February 2004, he was responsible for the implementation of the Project 2444 / CISP / ZAF “Support to the Local Business Service Centres Program (LBSC) in Province of Northern Cape” in South Africa, from there he moved to Malawi where until May 2004, he was the development economist consultant for the project MAI / AIDCO / 2002/0519/7/0 a project financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs-European Commission to assist the Small and Medium Enterprises with the promoting of a micro credit scheme. He then returned to South Africa where until December 2004 was in charge of the project “Support to Civil Society Organisation in the Northern Cape Province" project 7824 / CISP / ZAF funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the period March 2005 to February 2007 he was seconded to the European Commission Delegation in Nigeria as National Expert in the position of Non State Actors Adviser.

Returned to the CNR he continued his research activities shifting the focus on the study of migration movement, he has published essays in several collective volumes and in 2013 was co-editor of the volume Human mobility: Migration from a European and African viewpoint, Soveria Mannelli: Rubbettino. Since March 2012, he is affiliated researcher at the University of Namibia where he is completing his doctorate with a thesis on the impact of internal and international migration on the Namibian family structure.

Since 2014 is referee for the evaluation of projects for the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
