Presentation of the book “L’Italia dell’Antropocene”
and Lectio Magistralis by Gabriella Corona

As part of the week-long celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the UPP-Università Popolare Polesana (1986–2026 – 40 years of shared knowledge), there will be a presentation of the book “L’Italia dell’Antropocene” and Lectio Magistralis by Gabriella Corona, director of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies at the National Research Council (CNR-ISMed).

The lecture focuses on the history of Italy in the Anthropocene, that is, on the history of the relationship between Italy and its environment from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. It will examine the process of the artificialisation of the relationship with natural resources and the serious effects of the lack of priority given to environmental policies in the concerns of the ruling classes throughout the history of the Republic, the consequences of which are the subject of daily news reports: from the frequency of disasters to energy dependence on fossil fuels, from the climate impacts of unchecked land consumption to the implications of a transport system fundamentally based on the use of private vehicles.
